RT: Hello and welcome to CorkRules!&nbsp;

A podcast where, in each episode,&nbsp;we will review a wine list from your favorite restaurants. I&rsquo;m your host Robert Tas along with Grace Hood, wine educator and certified sommelier. Hello Grace,&nbsp;it&rsquo;s great to have you!

GH: Hey Robert happy to be here as always &nbsp;

RT: Before we jump in, let&rsquo;s talk about CorkRules. We created CorkRules to demystify wine lists because we know from experience, that sometimes when we get that list handed to us, well&hellip; it can be intimidating, and even a little daunting.

Our aim is to help prepare you to navigate that list, find those hidden gems, or value wines or that special bottle that will take your dining experience over the top.

RT:&nbsp;So, sit back and listen as we review your favorite wine list. Grace, what fabulous spot are we chatting about today?

GH: We are taking a deep dive into the wine list at The Painted Lady, one of the Willamette valley&rsquo;s premiere fine dining spots. &nbsp;

RT: Where there is good wine there is good food am I right?

GH:1000% you are. Painted Lady&rsquo;s list has a lovely international selection but definitely focuses on Oregon and Washington, which you know I personally love.

RT: I know you do. So, should we dive right into some bubbles? &nbsp;

GH: Twist my arm why don&rsquo;t ya haha starting with sparkling, I would do either the Evenstad Reserve from Domaine Serene, or if you want a brut rose, I&rsquo;m loving the look of this 2014 Sparkling from Gran Moraine. 

RT: Yum I love a little age on my bubbles. Two great choices. Now what are you thinking for some light whites?

GH: Well, we know that Oregon is very well known for their dry reisling. And they have some gorgeous selections on their menu. I would go with either the 2016 Ara from Brookes Winery, or the 2020 Rare Form from Ovum.

RT: Oh man you sommeliers and your resiling obsession haha I love it. What else is sticking out to you in the white wine section? &nbsp;

GH: For another light aromatic Oregon white, I would go with 2021 Patricia Green Sauvignon Blanc, or the 2018 Bethel Heights Estate Pinot Gris.

RT: Two refreshing choices for sure. Now I can only imagine their chardonnay choices are top-notch for a place like The Painted Lady.

GH: &nbsp;Oh, they absolutely are. Coming at you with some Burgundian-style Oregon chardonnay. My top picks would be 2017 Sigrid from Bergstrom, the 2019 from Depont Cellars or the 2019 La Source from Evening Land. 

RT: Great choices. Can&rsquo;t go wrong with any of those. And speaking of the Burgundy of America, what would you pick for Oregon pinot noir? I know it&rsquo;s your favorite so very excited to hear your selections.

GH: you know me too well Robert! They have two glorious pages of Willamette Valley pinot broken down by region. You can&rsquo;t go wrong with any of these, but my top choices would be the 2001 Nysa vineyard from Ken Wright Cellars, the 1998 Ponzi Reserve, the 2005 Upper Terrace from Beaux Freres and the 2004 Domaine Danielle Laurent from Solena. 

RT: Oh, wow love seeing those older vintages on the list. The sommelier here must have been collecting for a while. Thanks for those Grace. Now how about a more medium-bodied red?

GH: I&rsquo;m picking up what you&rsquo;re putting down Robert. Sticking with the stars of the Pacific Northwest, you could definitely do some Syrah, my second favorite grape ha-ha. From the Painted Lady list, I would go with the 2012 les collines vineyard from VA Piano, or the 2018 Reynvaan from the Rocks District.

RT: Rock on Grace ha-ha

GH: Oh, and speaking of medium-bodied, I just saw that they have a 2013 Sangiovese from the famous Leonetti cellars that would be super interesting to try, as well as this 2018 Merlot from Walla Walla vintners.

RT: Sangiovese you say? Wow, that would be a hoot. Alright, how about some of those big bold Washington cabs?

GH: Say no more Robert. They&rsquo;ve got a 2006 from Quilceda Creek, and if you wanted to go even dryer and do a Cabernet franc, they have a 2017 Cadence from Belle Canto 

RT: Oh, those both sound great.
